Oh. My. God! AMAZING!
Literally I binge-read through this on day two because I could freaking tear my eyes away from the pages!
I am in love.

With the world.
With the characters.
With the situation....okay maybe not the situation, but rather how Celaena is handling it.

Kay, man.. let me say..
This series contain many thing that I love.

Assassin heroine. Check
The freakin prince. Check
The Masquerade ball. Check
Medieval period setting. Check

What's more? I really like the plot and the characters, BUT there is something that irritate me. The love triangle. I felt like I saw the déjà vu of Rose, Drimitri, and Adrian from VA. *sigh* and that means something.

After being enslaved for a year in the Salt Mines of Endovier, also known as the death camps of Endovier, Celaena Sardothien is given a proposal by the crown Prince that she cannot decline. Be his champion in his fathers competition, giving her the role of King's champion for four years. After the four years? She will be given her much desired freedom.

I did for the most part really enjoy this book. I think thi Throne of Glass is the first book in the young adult fantasy series of the same name. I did for the most part really enjoy this book. I think this is the basic beginning to a complex and enthralling series. I admit some of the writing was a little cliche here and there, and the amount of romance was a disappointment as neither of the love interests interested me all that much. While I found Chaol's character was not the most interesting, I did like his relationship with Celaena. There was a kind loyalty and respect between the two. It seems Sarah J Maas had the ability to create an absolutely fantastic protagonist who was oozing with personality and complexity, yet all other characters seemed to have little to make me care much. Nehemia and Chaol have a lot of promise, however Dorian was not a character I enjoy nor care much for. His whole character is a cliche I have had enough of at this time.

The story itself, while not as strong as that in the prequel The Assasin's Blade, was still quite rich and detailed compared to other books I have read in this genre. There was definitely a strong story line there to explore, though I was left a little disappointed that it was not done so more. I felt like the actual competition itself was most disapointingly put to the back and as a result, very little was covered. I did not really know anything about any of the other competitors apart from Nox and Cain, both of whom were characters who could have been created in less than five minutes. But with what we were given, I was highly impressed. The mystery and fantasy was incredibly exciting and well done. I am beyond keen to get on to the next book in this series. As you can probably tell, I do really enjoy this series. Sarah J Maas is definitely an author I am growing respect for, her writing flows so nicely. Nah to Celaena and nah to Dorian. Disliked them both. There are much better books out there with much better characters. And if you want to read something by SJM I'd recommend ACOTAR series more. ...more

Who else enjoyed the simpler times in Throne of Glass when Rowboat Wifebeater didn't come out of nowhere in Heir of Fire to become Celeana's love-interest for absolutely no reason at all. Those times where the best.
