This was an enjoyable book to read, although far from perfect and could be tropey sometimes. I liked Tessa (definitely more than Clary) and the premise of the love triangle. Jem is so precious! The romance was always more focused on Will in this triangle. The side characters are also great - Charlotte, Henry, even Jessamine. Magnus Bane made an appearance. It take to me to long that I will enjoy historical book. This book is spectacular. The Mix of historical romance, Victorian London, steampunk, fantasy, action, and fantastic characters.

Set in 1878 London, The Infernal Devices trilogy is a steam punk esque prequal to Cassandra Clares Mortal Intruments series, both centering around said authors creation of Shadowhunters, a race of humans with half angel blood, who fight demons and live 'harmoneously' with Downworlders. Clockwork Angel begins with 16 year old, literature lover Tessa Gray travelling from New York to London, with hopes to live with her brother Nate after the passing of their Aunt. When arriving in England she is approached by two excessively dressed women holding a letter from Nate, stating they are friends of his here to pick Tessa up. It soon becomes aparent to Tessa that she has been kidnapped, and the two women train her to use a strange power she was oblivious she possessed.

I came into this novel with relatively positive expectations, and I am happy to be pleasently surprised. Clare has a fast pased and yet intricate writing style, that whilst not florishing with detail, still provides enough to picture things with a clear and personalised understanding. This book did not suffer from plot deficite, as there was always something happening that was outside of the characters control. There were plenty of fighting scenes and fantasy elements to keep this book entertaining from beginning to end, and all of the cast shared interesting relationships to bring intrigue and drama. The characters are all complex, including side characters, and Tessa was a great protagonist to follow. She was considerably normal and relatable, but she was also brave amd selfless. I honestly just want her to become a massive bad-ass who whips everyone in their place. This trilogy is most well known for its angsty love triangle, which was set up considerably slowly (at least in comparison to most young adult books). But as it was not the main driving force of the story, it allowed the story to stand on its own, even if you do not care whom Tessa choses out of Will Herondale or Jem Carstairs. Even though I already know the ending, I still enjoyed these character dynamics, and I am all here for the angst to escalate.
If you are considering whether to read this trilogy or not, as I was for some time, I will say it is worth dipping your toes into. I think it was a fun read that left me with little to no complaints.

~ In terms of which team I am on, I am undecided. My preference is most definitely Jem (what a precious thing), but I think the Will and Tessa dynamic is more angsty and dramatic. But their conversation at the end of the book though, what even was that? Anyway, I will have to continue reading until I can decide between the two ~ ...more

Had a tough time getting into the "City of Bones" and well as far as everyone on the booktuber's department were concerned it was best to go into the "Infernal Devices" first and at least I took their advice and I finally finished this book at last took me a while but I did it.

By the way I'm rooting Will and Tessa also prepare for some character deaths too.

I'll be reading the rest of this trilogy at some point but I enjoyed this book a lot. ...more
