Such a delightful read!

I admire the writing style of Terry Pratchett and the way he combines it with humour. This book makes fun of inequality between men/women, satirizing our society’s problems by the way of witches and wizards. It made me laugh. Not just a fantasy novel, but much more.

‘I’m not a lady, I’m a witch’ ... think I will start greeting people this way:-)

In the Discworld, wizard are men and witches are women. That is just the way it is, until a wizard accidentally passes his magical power to a baby girl instead of a baby boy. No one is sure what to do with the girl, Esk, who is manifesting wizard magic. Granny Weatherwax, the local witch, takes the girl under her wing and tries to train her to be a witch. I've been reading the Discworld books in order, a choice I know is a bit controversial. But it's been enjoyable so far, partly because there's nothing better than having a good time reading a series, knowing that everyone thinks they just get better and better.

So far, I think The Light Fantastic has been my favorite, but this one was quite enjoyable too, with an all-new cast of characters and some touching gender commentary. I know I really enjoyed it, because I remember talking about

A new 2022 recording of an early (1987) Discworld book. It’s a very good production of a story that features the beloved Granny Weatherwax and the young, female Esk who appears to have inherited a wizard’s magic.
