A very interesting book & probably very strange when translated into film. It was really very slow for the first half and I couldn’t stand it but it got exponentially better halfway through.

The characters are fairly immature but entertaining. Am a big fan of Mrs. Bolton & Connie’s father.

Overall, I think I liked it… & I really enjoyed D.H. Lawrence’s use of language (even if he could structured his pages & chapters a bit better).

I can appreciate the literary significance of this novel, and it was a decent read, but the story doesn't resonate with me. There are many better scandalous affair novels, if that's what you are looking for. This was just quite demeaning to women and I didn't appreciate Lawrence's opinions on women's sexuality and male dominance. The story of an illicit relationship between upper class, married woman and a working class (also married man). The book was “banned“ (unavailable in it’s original form) due to what was considered at the time pornographic material (although probably fairly tame by today’s standards).

I can understand why this book was controversial due to commentary about social class and more specifically due to fairly explicit descriptions of sex, but I was bored. I didn’t find the characters particularly likea

Lawrence did a good job of giving us a picture of the English society after the First World War and describing different types of relationships between men and women. The book should be read for that purpose and not for the sexual content which seems outdated. In all, this is not a classic that you must read. It has no significance as a piece of art any more. It has more sociological and historic significance.
