As a teenager, I adored Sarah J. Maas.
But now as an adult? I realise that her writing is just not my cup of tea.

Overall, I did enjoy "House of Earth and Blood"
But...

It was about 200 pages too long.

It took me three months to read this book and I have to say it was still giving "meh" after I finished it. I feel that Sarah reuses plot lines from her previous works and recycles them. I am a huge fan of the author but this is my least favorite series of hers. I spent the first few chapters very confused with all the moving parts and pieces of this realm she has created. Once I was able to digest the “set up” of this world, I started to enjoy the main characters more. Bryce is not very Interesting, as compared to others in this first book, but I can say that she develops well over the series and is a more mature main character.
