As a teenager, I adored Sarah J. Maas.
But now as an adult? I realise that her writing is just not my cup of tea.
Overall, I did enjoy "House of Earth and Blood"
But...
It was about 200 pages too long.
There was waaaaaay too much swearing (f this and f-ing that in every bit of dialogue). Why? Because it's Sarah's first adult fantasy book and she can?
The love interest was written out to be totally terrifying and feared by everyone (which is great character building) but then BAM here comes our mai ...more

It took me three months to read this book and I have to say it was still giving "meh" after I finished it. I feel that Sarah reuses plot lines from her previous works and recycles them. Nothing bad about it. get your coin but I just felt disappointed considering I had expected something more explosive and plot-twisting. I am a huge fan of the author but this is my least favorite series of hers. I spent the first few chapters very confused with all the moving parts and pieces of this realm she has created. Once I was able to digest the “set up” of this world, I started to enjoy the main characters more. Bryce is not very Interesting, as compared to others in this first book, but I can say that she develops well over the series and is a more mature main character.
