First 3/4 of the book I had the Mission Impossible soundtrack running through my head, then I was humming no more as everything in motion went splat in their faces. You can hear it now can't you. :D It was mission impossible, for these characters,who set out to change their lives by risking their lives. I liked all the characters. all were well developed and full of personality quirks. For me the book was a winner, that I never got to sit down long enough with.

This was the first book I read from Leigh Bardugo. I read somewhere it wouldn’t be any problem if you started reading Six of Crows first before Shadow and Bone. My library didn’t have the English version of Shadow and Bone yet so that’s why I started reading this one first.

I did kinda miss the introduction to the whole world because I haven’t read Shadow and Bone yet. But boy oh boy did I love this a lot! It’s really the kind of fantasy genre I like reading and I love how Leigh builds her world ...more

Yes - I wanted to know what all the hype was all about - So I finally got around to reading this book.
And I liked it. I liked it because it was different. The concept of pulling off a heist in a built up imaginative world was something interesting and so were all the characters in this book. Each and every one of them was mysterious in their own ways and nobody came off as too stupid or annoying. Come to think of it, i actually liked all the characters. There was no one i didn't like. So that is Yes - I wanted to know what all the hype was all about - So I finally got around to reading this book.
And I liked it. I liked it because it was different. The concept of pulling off a heist in a built up imaginative world was something interesting and so were all the characters in this book. Each and every one of them was mysterious in their own ways and nobody came off as too stupid or annoying. Come to think of it, i actually liked all the characters. There was no one i didn't like. So that is a huge plus for me in this book. The constant movements between characters in each chapter didnt bother me because i was interested to learn more about each character. So, i enjoyed it.
But - Yes - there is a but.
How on earth is Kaz 17? And how are a few of the other characters 12? There is no way on any made up world that somebody who is 17 or 12 is that mature. I would have liked it even if the author did not reveal there ages. It did nothing to the story. Despite specifically mentioning that the character was 17 or 12, i chose to ignore that and in my head believed that Kaz was atleast 27.
I also had a problem with the heist. I mean, conceptually it was wonderful and I badly wanted to know what the author could have thought off to break into the Ice court and capture the scientist-y person, but in the end, it felt so easy. The whole book kept me wondering how they were going to pull it off and suddenly in a matter of few chapters, they pulled it off.Just like that. Like it was no big deal. So it kind of killed the excitement for me and it made me sad that i could not relish the way it was done.
Finally, because i was new to the grisha-universe, it was difficult for me to follow the so-many different characters in the story. To the point, that i cant even remember what each of them were or what powers they had. The world was woven beautifully but was super complicated for me to understand and that for me was a big minus.
Otherwise, this was a good book but i may not pick up crooked kingdom purely because this heist was over and i am not excited to know what happens to these characters next. ...more
