Hmm, not bad.

Ok, I expected a lot more from this book after I read the blurb and saw the cover. But I guess people were right in their reviews, it's not the best PNR out there.

Still, it had its fun parts, some good moments. The characters were likeable(ish) and the good part is that it was fast paced and short. So not a bad read, just a pretty typical one.

I didn't used to write 'bad' reviews of books, or even rate them, but having got more involved in the social side of Goodreads, it's less easy to just let those books you didn't enjoy slide off into merciful oblivion. It's embarrassing on my side, and probably on the other side, when someone recommends me a book and I have to explain that I already tried reading it and didn't like it.

There wasn't anything about the main character here for me to like or dislike because she didn't really have any personality. She's a sorceress and a nerd and a gamer (things we're told already from the blur ...more

This book has likeable characters, but I think it moves a bit too fast. Jade Crow, the protagonist has been on the run for 20 or 30 years from a man, sorcerer, who wants to eat her heart and gain all of her powers and knowledge. She learned the hard way what happens when she is found. But one sentence from someone and she is thinking about changing her M.O.

Fast forward to today and she is wanted for a murder she didn't actually commit, because it hasn't actually happened yet. She has he
