5/29/18- okay. I change my rating to 4 stars. Nikolai ran this shiz okay?!? And omfg he’s one of my favorite characters ever, ever, ever. The character building there, too; knowwhatimean!? Just epic. He may have just charmed me more than even anyone actually in the novel ;-). I miss him already// blah. I could talk forever about how fabulous & amazing he is but you probably get the idea.

Mal is really annoying. He seems to only support Alina when it’s because she has no power or isn’t using it. Plus he just always seems to leave.....Alina and Mal are just a no.

It was exciting! Great character development. There was definitely a bit of “second book syndrome” where you’re kinda in limbo for part of the book or in a waiting period for something to happen. But overall I really enjoyed it.

This turned out to be fast paced sequel that I really enjoyed, combining magic, adventure, fun and drama. My favorite character by far was Nikolai - I’m so happy there are more books with him in it! I could have done with a little less angst, to be honest, and I’m not so happy about the romance - I like couples who are proud of each other’s power and I’m not sure these two are good for each other. But I expect all will come to a satisfying conclusion in the next book - I’m about to start reading ...more

I had high hopes for this sequel and I must say I was let down. The beginning started off well, the middle was boring and it picked back up at the end of the book. My major problems were with character development. Mal was annoying, Alina becomes arrogant as she develops into the Sun Summoner and we did't learn much more about the Darkling. That being said, I am still interested in reading the third book and seeing how this all ends. ...more

This was a struggle for me to get through but about halfway was when it began to pick up for me. This desperately needed more Darkling and Nicolai is a very welcome addition to the character cast. I loved him. It was a 2 star read for me until the last 100 pages.
