I totally loved this book! It has everything I enjoy in a book - strong witty female heroine who can seriously kick some butt, a hot sexy man (or vamp in this case) who the heroine doesn't go completely gaga over and a bit of blood and gore and slaying of a few vamps along the way.

Rowan Summerwaite is a Vessel for the Goddess Brigid, but was raised by The First (the first vampire that is) and although she despises him, she still loves him. He had her parents killed when she was a baby but didn't I totally loved this book! Anyway Rowan is a Hunter, one whose job it is to protect the humans from the vamps should they do anything not under the agreement of the Treaty. After 2 women turn up very dead, completely drained of blood, sliced open, organs removed and dropped into the middle of the desert outside of Las Vegas, Rowan knows she has a crazy serial killer vamp on her hands. There's no way anyone else could manage to kill these women in this way, leaving no trails behind in the sand. The cops have no idea what to do and although she's close friends with one, she cannot tell him who and what she is and that she has an association with vampires.

The Scion, Clive Stewart, is the local vampire leader and Rowan has many run-ins with him that lead to more than just a heated argument! I loved the tension and banter between them both and that Rowan wouldn't let her feelings get in the way of who she was and what she had to do.

When a third woman is found, the race to find this crazy vampire speeds up a notch, with the First coming to offer his help in his own way. Unfortunately this poor woman is someone known to Rowan, and she has to find the killer before any more humans get involved in one way or another. I loved the twist in who was involved with this serial killer vamp - so not who I was expecting at all.

I am hoping for a second book in this series as it was so well written, the characters were developed well and I desperately want to find out more about how Rowan was chosen to be the Vessel for Brigid and her relationship with Clive Stewart. ...more
