This one delves into the Cabals and deeper into Lucas' complicated relationship with his father, when Benicio asks Paige and Lucas to investigate attacks on kids of Cabal employees. We meet Jaime - our favorite celeb necromancer ;) - get a brief glimpse of Eve in the afterlife - and I love this world's version of the afterlife (more on that in the next book) - and we also get to see Clay, Elena and Jeremy again. Series reread 2023 with goal to finally finish series, leaving original rating.

Witches are boring in Armstrong's world. Paige and Lucas are just sooooo earnest and think they are sooooo above the "bad guys". Paige's goody goody witch expectations are slowly evolving but not fast enough to make her even slightly interesting. Combine that with Lucas's 'white hat' bullsh*t and they are as bland as toast.
