Schroder is an off-beat, well structured novel with a complex, damaged protagonist and a marvellous young female character who put me in mind of Jack from Emma Donoghue’s Room. The sense of foreboding in both novels is strong as is the concern engendered for the welfare of the two families as their stories unfold.
