I've been reading Gardner's Perry Mason books off and on for many years. Those who are used to really fine mystery writers may find Gardner's writing style a bit stiff and mechanical. Nonetheless, I still love the general setting: the characters of Perry, Della, Paul, Lt. Tragg, and Hamilton Berger. That, and the ingenious plots, are why I read Perry Mason.

Vintage Perry Mason with many twists and turns.
I am not going to write the story or plot here.
Mason is more of a detective than an attorney while his sidekick Paul Drake confines himself to putting a tail on possible suspects and digging out background info on them. Della Street is smart and savvy as usual.
When you start thinking that the plot is simple enough, Gardner introduces new characters and thickens the plot in the process.
