Every good thing you hear about this book is and will remain true. Whitehead has produced a masterpiece of historical fiction and literature that bubbles with this country's shame of slavery as well as the pride and determination of blacks who have risked everything to merely be.

Very good. Well written and interesting and clever and easy to read, despite the very tough subject matter.

PS This isn't really historical fiction—it's fiction-fiction or maybe speculative fiction. Historians expecting a perfect representation of the actual Underground Railroad are likely to be annoyed. And those of us who are not big history people might like it even more. :) ...more
