I had never heard of the tragedy at Masada, so this was a good historical fiction choice for me. I enjoyed the different perspectives of the four women, but I can't say that I grew close to any of them. The writing had a certain amount of detachment to it that made it difficult to really empathize with them. I thoroughly enjoyed the historical aspects of the novel, and especially the descriptions of the Jewish traditions.
