Although the cover makes it look like this book is one of the recent Gone Girl read alikes, it isn't. It's the story of Amanda, who is starting over in a new town because she's been through a lot of changes. I loved getting to read a story from the perspective of a trans individual who has already transitioned. I enjoyed this. Russo's writing is strong, and I thought the story was interesting. I was a little...concerned, maybe, that things seemed a bit too easy for Amanda, which doesn't seem very realistic, but Russo's author note at the end explains why she made the storytelling decisions she did. And because the audience is teenagers—whether cis or trans—I think those decisions are okay. You have to write to your intended audience, and I think she did a good job of that. ...more
