(4.5) Amazing style, a pleasure to read, if of a distasteful subject

The voice that Nabokov adopts for his character, Humbert, was impressive...learned, slightly sociopathic, creepy, neurotic. Just a flat-out well written novel. My first Nabokov...I'll be reading more. Somehow just can't give it 5 stars...perhaps just the pedophilia holds me back?

I did notice that you have to pay pretty close attention as he makes many oblique references to things you've read about earlier in the novel. No good e

I started reading this book that I borrowed from the library just a few days before I left London. I couldn't finish it because I was very busy. However, I have grown to really like this book. I felt like I was involved in the story. Every word from Humbert toyed with my emotion. It was amazing. I should get a hold of this book and finish what I have started!

I loved this book.
I think everyone should read it. Nobakov has a very unique and awesome way of writing that allows you to see Humbert Humbert's flaws and make you feel such utter pity for a character that would normally turn your stomach.
The plot and the characters are both really well written. Humbert Humbert's second-hand life is a gloriously sad tale that is like watching a train-wreck. You just can't look away.

A book I'd never have appreciated without my Wuthering Heights experience (see that review if you're confused).

Great writing style - twisted and disturbing plot with complicated character development.

Unfortunately, a timeless theme in our society that values girls and the flightiness of teenagers as companions and partners over mature and thoughtful women.
