Another book I wish I was smarter for.

The commentary and personal memoir on critical theory, language (and its limits, or not), gender and most importantly and touchingly motherhood makes for a fascinating read. One I think I will revisit as there's so much here to think about. ...more

I very much enjoyed the portion of this memoir where the author juxtaposed her experience of labor with her experience of her mother dying. It was powerful to see the pain and release of both life entering and exiting this world.

This is a great conversation book. It touches on many gender/identity issues in an open manner, making it easy to digest and consider. In it are moments of brilliance both inspiring and heartbreaking, sometimes both, and mostly from a place of love. The free form memoir style of the writing helps to cover many subjects in a small space, but also sometimes feels rushed and disjointed.
