I did not expect this to be the first book I finished this year, but once I started it, I simply couldn’t get enough. These stories, loosely connected, are heartbreaking. Haiti is a heartbreak all its own, but these stories of people who have lived their Haitian (and sometimes American) lives are just impossibly heartbreaking.
