Somewhat raunchy, but a quick read, and a fascinating portrait painted of San Francisco mid 1800s. All of the characters are based on real people who existed at the time and I enjoyed some of the peripheral characters though not all of them.
The main character is such an impulsive wreck, however, that I found it hard to care about her story.

I'm "IN" anytime a book is based on an odd, nearly forgotten old crime or odd historical event. This was a nice follow-up after having read "Belle Cora" by Peter Margulies, also set in early San Francisco, earlier this year.
No doubt this is a bit of a strange story, and the question lingers: WHO did shoot Jenny Bonnet and was she the intended victim? Here's one where you get to form opinions.
Oh, and it has many references/lyrics from old music.
