I think this was the most disturbing book I have ever read with an incredibly slow and tortuous build where you KNOW things are going to get worse but you can't (and don't want to) fathom just how bad it can be. The climax alone is worth that slow build, and even though you know it's coming, it's still quite the punch to the gut when you finally find out exactly what happened that fateful April morning.

This was completely harrowing. But fascinating. I found its first person narrator completely unlikable, and yet I still couldn't stop reading. I'd love to have a book group-type discussion of this book, but I don't know if I can in good conscience inflict it on anyone else... where's Art of Soul when I need it?!
