I put off reading this book because it falls into one of two genres that I tend to stay away from these days: WWII/Holocaust stories and Civil War/Slavery stories. I've read so many books in these two categories that I cant believe there is anything new to say. And both of these genres take such an emotional toll to read that I have to be really compelled to pick it up.

I love novels set in WWII Europe. This one was just a bit too melodramatic for me. It seemed like the author tried to fit every single thing she had researched about WWII atrocities into her plot line. It actually felt like too much. I've been reading WWII fiction nearly all my life, and yet Hannah has ma ...more

First off I must tell you that I love historical fiction. It is one of my favorite genres so if you don’t like it, perhaps you should skip this review and possibly the book because this is me being subjective.
I liked it. It took me longer than I’d like to get into it and to really like a character but I stuck with it and it got me hooked. It’s about two very different French sisters and how they survived in occupied France during World War II. I’ll admit, I even teared up a bit at the end. Once
