What Members Thought

This was my first Kristin Hannah book and will most likely be my last. I don't understand the hype, the following, the praise this story has gathered. They story felt forced, amateurish, dull, and predictable.
"She was in so much pain, it was indescribable."
A good writer will describe it, will paint the pain so that the reader can begin to imagine it, and even wince.

I love novels set in WWII Europe. This one was just a bit too melodramatic for me. It seemed like the author tried to fit every single thing she had researched about WWII atrocities into her plot line. It actually felt like too much. Like a watered-down, overly plot-y, chick-lit version of a war story. Didn't hate it, but out of all of the really beautiful and affecting novels about the time period, I wouldn't recommend this one.
