Um, 2.5 rounded up...simply because I struggle with the self help genre. Had this been completely a memoir from which you could just take away what you observed and perhaps apply it to your creative practice, then....I might have been on board. The parts where Gilbert recounted her inspiration, struggles, abandonment, or completion of various writing projects were all really interesting. Some the examples about other writers were also quite engaging. But then everything comes full circle to "Don

A lot of people have recommended this book to me as inspirational, moving, really fundamental to how they work. I was so hoping to have that experience with it. I even read it on January 1st for maximum "magic New Year" impact. Unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. I guess I'll go read Writing Down the Bones again.

Fun, funny and easy read. Classic Elizabeth Gilbert.
Really, two-and-a-half stars. There's some sparkling optimism that's nearly impossible to deflect but also so much privilege that it's often hard to relate.
