It's hard for me to rate this book.....this is a genre (thriller/mystery) that I don't typically read and I try to rate books according to their genre I guess. You know 5 stars for Goodnight Moon is different than a 5 stars for Catcher in the Rye or 5 stars for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I have to give this book one thing. I was compelled to read it from all the things I heard about it to the author pulling me into the suspense of the book - what happened to Amy? Then, what becomes of Amy and Nic ...more

I knew little about the book going in. I only knew there was a troubled marriage and a disappearance. That's it. So I was riveted to this book from the first few minutes. Literally, every page revealed a clue to be explained later and you can't stop reading because you can't wait to find out what something means AND THEN, halfway through the book, you are sideswiped, completely thrown, and continue on the suspenseful journey.

BUT the reason I'm not giving this four stars...I really hated the end

I listened on audiobook and I think that affected my enjoyment of the book somewhat--they had a male and female reader for the different parts of the book, but they didn't really "sell" the personalities of either narrator, and their personalities were so crucial to the whole arc of the book. Still enjoying and compelling, though, despite an irritating overuse of the word "literally." Reading this book is definitely like riding a roller coaster. It was well written and very hard to put down once I started reading it.
