Well this was an interesting read, for sure. I won't comment on how "true" this is (there's lots of debate, apparently, about the specifics of the events as depicted by the author). Sometimes the author is kind of obnoxious (about her appearance especially later in the book), but I guess if we're all being honest we're all obnoxious now and then. The end of the book is very weird too. She's just kind of like "I got a book deal and bam I'm out!" and doesn't explain how she was able to leave with

An interesting read, especially since I just read "I am Forbidden." I'm not entirely convinced she is a good writer---the first half of the book was well-written and the second half, not so much. And her flight from Hasidism---left more questions than answers---is if her in-laws were so controlling/her grandparents had so much power, why on earth would they let her just take the kid? I'm by no means pro-Hasidism but there was something a little off (to me) about the last few chapters. Its ironic

There is nothing particularly special about the writing style, but the subject matter of this memoir of leaving her conservative orthodox community was utterly fascinating to me. I loved this one. 4.5 stars
