I enjoyed this more than I had expected. This was read for a book club. I don't know whether to categorize it short stories or not, although I saw that it was a memoir of sorts. It is a series of short tales from the viewpoint of a young girl who is growing up in a poor, urban, Latino area of Chicago. I liked this book well enough to read it in three short sittings, but that's also because it is only 110 pages. I wanted to like it more. I like the concept of vignettes - each one is no more than three or four pages, so it's easy to stop and resume whenever you need to - and some of the stories are heartbreaking.
