This is a book that I have been wanting to read for awhile but hadn't found the time for it. I am very glad that I finally picked it back up because it turned out to be a much more compelling book than I anticipated. This is a window into Katey Kontent's life in 1938 in Manhattan. You are seeing a portion of Katey's life in all it ups and downs and the people that she crosses paths with for that one year. This book tells the story of a year in the life of Katey Kontent. The opening scene invokes a reminiscence for Katey of the year 1938 when she first met Tinker Grey. The book follows her growth from the secretarial pool to the offices of Conde Nast. There is an interplay of relationships; a witty, yet thought-provoking dialog, and an interesting cast of characters.
