Shelves: middle-grade, claire-talbot-s-2018-challenge

I thought this was a solid middle grade fiction, with a positive message of inclusion, but for me not as good as the hype. The One and Only Ivan is still my favorite Katherine Applegate novel.

Beautifully written story as told by Red the tree who has lived for 260 years. Red is a wishtree where people leave their wishes on scraps of cloth. Red observes the people who live in the community. One day, Red sees a new family move into the neighborhood, but not everyone welcomes the family. This was one of my favorite middle-grade novels of 2017 both because of the writing and the themes.
