This book is AMAZING. (I read Celeste Ng’s other novel, too which I think is even better. ) this book is about family dynamics and what makes somebody a mother. An interesting concept that is explored is how when you do something with even the best intentions, or “the right way”, “the way it’s supposed to be done” you can end up hurting people you love. Or, with everything blowing up in your face. This would make a great book club selection as there’s a lot of layers to discuss. Just (((((WOW)))

One of the best books I've read this year - Such an interesting take on wealth, the relationship of mothers and daughters, and revenge. I'll be thinking about this book and the characters for a long time. You are forced to think about issues like adopting a child of a different race, the obligations of being a surrogate, and the dynamics of wealth versus poverty. I am still wondering about what happens to Pearl....
