Absolutely fascinating account of a man, Christopher Knight, who essentially disappeared off the face of the earth in 1986 at 20 years old. Turns out, he was living off the grid and in the woods the entire time and did so for 27 YEARS! He never contacted anyone and lived in a camp that he created. He was eventually discovered and arrested when he was caught stealing food from a nearby camp... something he'd done for years undetected.

*3.5 stars* I picked up this short (191 page) book purely to help me reach my goal of 30 books in 2019. It’s the true story of a hermit who lived in the woods of Maine for 27 years, with no human contact. He stole food and supplies from nearby cabins and camps, but always in a respectful, non-violent, non-vandal manner. He was a true introvert and enjoyed a life of reading (stolen) books & poetry, hiking, and being completely and totally free. My husband loved this book and recommended it to me.

This was a fascinating book to read. Hearing about this man's experience as a "hermit" was deeply interesting and compelling.

I was bothered throughout by the reporting methods utilized at times. It felt like the author was harassing Knight and his family at times. So while he did get a good story out of Knight, it felt unethical how he pursued it at times.
