Recommended if you like literary science fiction. It's a character study of a variety of people who survive a worldwide pandemic. Less violent than you might expect, given the premise (and no zombies in sight -- I am so over zombies).

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, one thing about dystopian novels bothers me. When over 99% of the population dies, in a short amount of time, there are just a heck of a lot of dead bodies that I am sure people are not burying. This has to result in a lot of related disease and incredible stench when the bodies lie around decaying. No one ever really talks about this. I also don't understand some of the issues that come up.
