I love well-made picture book biographies about women and people of color accomplishing great things. It's like we're re-writing our history and aiming those efforts at those on whom it will have the greatest impact. The problem is that books like this get lost on both biography shelves and picture books shelves, so once they come off the NEW shelf, no one ever checks them out again. Miss Mary Reporting delivers a wonderful story. Macy did some in-depth research and you can tell from the story. She includes quotes from Mary and other people in her life. Payne's illustrations are wonderful and a great compliment to the story.

I'm always a little leery of longer nonfiction picture books. The sentences often take over the pictures and the story is so bogged down with facts the story loses my interest. OR the sentences are so long but sparse on details that I feel that I don't r
