Here was another one that was always out at the middle school library I worked at. When it finally came in, by chance, just before a long weekend, I snatched it up. The story of how a young girl's interest-turned-passion for roller derby helps her to step out of her comfort zone, gain confidence and make new friends is a fun one, and Jamieson's knack for character expressions in her delightful illustrations really add depth. Graphic Novel focuses on that fun *cough* terrible *cough* time in every person's life where figuring out who you are might mean gaining (and losing) friendships.

Astrid decides to do a Roller Derby Summer Camp but by doing this, causes a rift between her and her best friend Nicole. At this camp, she'll learn what hard work and teamwork can do. On the rink and off.

Shelves: middle-grade
A really good graphic novel - I learned a lot about roller derby, but also accurately depicts the awkwardness of friendship when long term friends hit middle school and have developed at different rates.
