Essays on the essence of being a woman. These are poetic and meaningful. Writers and Books picked this title for If All of Rochester Read for 2016. A wonderful choice, especially since Sonja lived here in Rochester. I met her once when she was in the process of writing her memoir Ghostbread, and she was a lovely person working hard to get her book published. She came to Chili Public Library to teach a memoir writing program and couldn't have been lovelier. Congratulations! Loved this book!

well. this was a tough one for me, but I think it is due partly to reading it closely after "Ghostbread", Sonja Livingston's memoir. Looking forward to her Rochester Reads presentation!

I read this book as part of the "If All of Rochester Read The Same Book" program through Writers & Books. I had the good fortune to hear the author speak about the book and answer questions about it afterward. I found her to be gracious and funny, much like her writing. Most of the people that I spoke to agree that the essays contained within this book vary; some are excellent, while others ramble. But when she gets it right, it's really, really right. Just liked it okay at first, but her essays had a cumulative effect so that by the end I was totally affected. I love that they're snapshots of her life and that we don't get all the info and are left to wonder about some things...many things. Plus, it's cool to get the local references.
