[close] I haven't read this book since Budapest (such a fancy sentence!), and I plan on finishing it since I'm almost through, before I continue reading Earthsea.

It's about a man who sold his soul to the devil to be a Necromancer, but now he wants his soul back. He makes another deal with the devil, and the terms are, if he can garner a hundred souls through a traveling railroad carnival, he will win his soul back.

Cabal is entertaining enough, but the secondary characters that make up the carnival crew also make this story. It reminds me of Good Omens.

But nothing is as good as Good Omens.

I still enjoy this book, though.

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't surprised to see Howard pay respects to Bradbury in the acknowledgements as his dry, dark humor reminded me of Bradbury's. Onto book two! ...more
