Such an amazing, magical story filled with some of the best characters I've read about. It was quirky and beautifully written and even though I got lost in some parts (completely my fault) I still enjoyed this journey so much. I loved absolutely everything about this book. I picked it up because I had heard a couple of people talking about it, and I will be purchasing the rest of the books in this series as soon as I can. September is a wonderful character, and she is so brave and strong and lovely and empathetic and I just loved her a lot. Also, a wyvern with a library for a father? Yes, please! It took me quite a while to get into this book, I may have given up if it weren't for the great reviews- it wasn't that it was bad, it was quite sweet and funny, but it didn't seem massively original and I wasn't sure where the story was going, it just wasn't one of those books where you can't put it down. What an interesting journey this book took me on. SO MUCH happened in it that I’m still kinda gobsmacked. Valente’s writing is really on point and very imaginative. I don’t know how she thinks of these things!
I love the friends that September meets along the way and the lessons that she learns. Not your typical kids book since I didn’t feel like there were a lot of obvious moral lessons that dragged out. I really didn’t know what September was gonna do half the time and I loved how everything c ...more

I liked this enough that I don't regret reading it, but not so much that I want to read any more in the series, I think.
