Wow. I dont konw what i was expecting when i started reading this, but i know i wasnt expecting this, that is for sure.
First of all, i love the format of the book, its different sections, the chapters, just, everything surronding the text itself. I havent read a book inspired by true events in a really really long time, mostly cause i didnt know if i would like it, but this took me by surprise. I really enjoyed this read - the story of perseverance and recovery was amazing.
I enjoyed how honest it was. It did not paint this beautiful and unrealistic picture of a first time backpacker - Strayed admitted mistakes and really made fun of her self for the rookie things she did. But the Rookie mistakes are what made this story so great!

I give Cheryl all the credit in the world for taking on a feat that I certainly never could’ve embarked on. The book captured all of the twists and turns Strayed’s journey had, almost metaphorical to the PCT.
That said, while the retelling of her journey did not lack substance, it did lack depth, IMHO.
A quick & captivating read no doubt, but a reader shouldn’t finish a book still asking “So what?” if a story has done its job.
