What Members Thought

Alice-Elizabeth (Prolific Reader Alice)
I wanted to read a scary book, something that would chill me to the bone, a dark, deep, twisted read. For me, Asylum ticked all of the boxes.

The main character Daniel Crawford is on a summer programme run by the New Hampshire College but instead of staying on a College campus, the students are housed in an ex-run asylum. Dan meets Jordan, Abby and his new roommate Felix but after a short time at the asylum, nothing is quite what it seems. Dan starts to suffer from hallucinations, Jordan and Dan

This is a very unique story about a dismissed asylum for criminally insane, a sick warden and a serial killer. I really enjoyed reading this book, some characters may sounds a little bit annoying (like the girl throwing tantrums when she's not at the center of the scene or the angry-for-no-reson gay boy who's angry and sarcastic) but on the other hand there are quite a few of interesting and mysterious ones.
The second book Sanctum sounds promising.

Interesting book :)

I really liked the photos in this book it added a certain element to the story that made it feel more real in turn giving it a creepier vibe.
This definitely felt like a YA kind of scary novel though ...
Not bad, I will probably continue the series at some point.

I was really excited to finally get this book from the library but once I dove in I was left very disappointed. By no means did I expect a YA book to be a great literary work but the story just felt blah from the get go. The author failed to capture my attention in the first few chapters with their writing but I loved the asylum pictures that were added in throughout the story. I feel like if I could have kept reading the pictures would definitely have added to the spookiness of this book.
