Rich Prick in Fallen Into Tijan Books

It has been a while since I read something by Tijan so I was very excited to read Rich Prick , but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. Not by a longshot.

Most of the time I can tell by reading the first chapter if I am going to love or hate the book. The first chapter in this book did not impress me in the slightest, seeing as we have to witness the heroine, Aspen, watching and getting turned on watching the hero, Blaise, getting a blowjob fro Warning! It has been a while since I read something by Tijan so I was very excited to read Rich Prick , but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. Not by a longshot.

Most of the time I can tell by reading the first chapter if I am going to love or hate the book. The first chapter in this book did not impress me in the slightest, seeing as we have to witness the heroine, Aspen, watching and getting turned on watching the hero, Blaise, getting a blowjob from another woman. This was the first red flag. I mean, what girl enjoys watching her crush being intimate with someone else? I love me some great romance. It is my favourite genre. Getting the fact that the hero is with other women thrown in my face right off the bat is not what I consider romantic. In fact, it almost put me off reading the book at all. But I soldered on because I did enjoy books written by Tijan before so I hoped it would get better. This was not fully the case. For the first few chapters (more than I would have liked) we see Blaise getting it on with Mara, calling her "his girl" even though he said they were not exclusive and getting pissed off when one of his buddies mentions he will make a pass on Mara to which Blaise replied "he doesn't share". So while he might have said that him and Mara are not exclusive, everything he say and the way he acts suggests the exact opposite.

Another red flag was when Aspen decided to go camping alone for four days and Blaise went apeshit saying it's not safe. That's all well and good coming from a concerned friend but at this point Blaise talked to Aspen two times at best so really, who is he to tell her what she can and cannot do?

I swear these characters' emotions went from 0 to 100 in a nanosecond. There was no in-between for them. They fell in love fast. They got pissed off fast. It honestly gave me whiplash. There was a scene where Blaise just gave Aspen an orgasm and she started sobbing. And when I say sobbing, I mean sobbing. Then, while still sobbing, she tried to give Blaise a blowjob (because that is exactly what turns on men like Blaise). It's like these characters had no control over their emotions.

I found that all of the characters were one one-dimensional and I could not relate to any of them. They lacked depth and they never seemed to learn from their mistakes. Blaise constantly gets into fights and his reasoning is that he had it shit growing up, and that is why he treats everyone around him like shit, including his mother and best friend. He lashes out pretty quick and the smallest of things set him off. He came across as very childish. Even harder time I had relating to Aspen. It felt like she was so desperate to have relationship with Blaise that she did not care if he disrespected her or not. If any guy treated me the way Blaise treated Aspen the first time they had sex, I would walk away and never look back. And if a girl does not respect herself, she can't expect other to respect her. Not to mention the scene where she goes to pick-up Blaise after he gets into a fight and gets his ass kicked and she is too busy checking out some other dude instead of being concerned for her boyfriend. That has put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

While both Aspen and Blaise had some bad shit happen to them, it didn't evoke in me the desired emotion which I assume is pity, or feeling of pride for the character for over coming something so awful. If anything, it made me annoyed because it just gave them more ammunition to act like spastics.

Also, reading through it, it felt awfully like reading Fallen Crest series all over again, except I enjoyed Fallen Crest a lot more. The characters shared a lot of the same issues. Blaise's trauma is very similar to Sam's, the only difference being Sam went for a run whenever she felt her emotions bubbling up to the surface instead of beating people up. There are other ways to make the book angsty besides giving the characters a wagon full of family baggage.

Okay, the rant is over. I am giving Rich Prick two stars because while I did not enjoy the first half, the second half became a bit more bearable. ...more

This book was so good that I couldn’t put it down!! I was cursing my adult life for keeping me away with tedious jobs like cooking and washing dishes. I dove right in a was enthralled in Aspen and Blaise.
