When I finished 'A Court Of Thorns And Roses' I knew exactly what I wanted to see happen...or so I thought. In this follow-up book, I can honestly say that Ms. Maas gave me absolutely nothing that I expected, but everything that I didn't know I needed. I loved the way things played out in this book!

I tried my best to get into the series I really did. And I will admit the story drew me in enough to be curious about what happens after. But it's 3 stars for me.

I never really gushed over Tamlin as a love interest in ACOTAR. But he was the love interest regardless. Then ACOMAF comes and it was all apparently for nothing because he's now the most hated man in the fandom. And conveniently enough every single bad thing Rhysand did now has justification. Like literally every single shitty thing he I tried my best to get into the series I really did. And I will admit the story drew me in enough to be curious about what happens after. But it's 3 stars for me.

I never really gushed over Tamlin as a love interest in ACOTAR. But he was the love interest regardless. Then ACOMAF comes and it was all apparently for nothing because he's now the most hated man in the fandom. And conveniently enough every single bad thing Rhysand did now has justification. Like literally every single shitty thing he did led up to this "gotcha" revelation and he's apparently the most selfless being in the world.

The male interest change, I could've easily accepted especially since given the new trajectory of the story is now Rhysand over Tamlin. I'm not trying to negate that fact. Tamlin did some pretty shitty things in ACOMAF.

But what I didn't like was how the author made Rhysand the superior choice by conveniently assassinating Tamlin's character and Feyre's choices. Towards the end of the book, I had to ask myself why the whole beauty and the beast retelling had to be incorporated into the story if it literally doesn't serve a purpose to the rest of the storyline going forward. The whole legend about how Feyre was able to fall in love with Tamlin despite hating the fae yada yada. What was the reason?? Lmao

Maybe it's the sudden pacing or the convenient turnaround of events but whatever it is, it made the story seem like the author suddenly changed her mind towards the male lead midway because she suddenly wanted a hades & persephone retelling for the second installment. And I'm not saying Feyre and Rhysand's story failed to deliver. Because it did a great job of playing into that whole vibe. But it completely made the first book useless to me.

And I think even the author had a hard time trying to suddenly villainize Tamlin from being the sweet tortured character he was to what he now is because the Tamlin hate train was just drawing really strongly on what? His overprotectiveness? Yes, he was closed off, stubborn, distant and he locked her up that one time. But based on that, we're suddenly led to regard him as the most unreasonable character? Like be for real. The guy clearly has ptsd along with Feyre. Thats not even a unique plot point in romance when the ML and FL suddenly withdraw from eachother for reasons they keep to themselves. But its usually resolved together. Not through a third party character who is quite literally a mindreader. I had to lol when Feyre went on about how Tamlin didn't understand how she felt but Rhysand did. Of course he couldn't, she wasn't exactly showing him either. Meanwhile she only had to draw a fart and Rhysand felt everything through the coveniently placed bond lol.

And yes, there were these realizations that suddenly made Tamlin's actions in ACOTAR to apparently be red flags that led to the build up of his now shitty character. But even those moments seemed forced. Like how him sneaking off to get it on with her in the mountains wasn't actually a good thing? It actually meant he was a selfish prick?

I guess this would've all been easier to accept for me had Feyre fallen out of love with Tamlin naturally. And not conveniently for Rhysand's entrance. Because now, the way I saw it happen was that she fell in love with Tamlin and they both went through something horrific but she sought refuge in someone else instead of the man she was literally declaring her love to and sacrificing herself for weeks ago lol. Just kinda makes her seem like an idiot tbh.

And now she's apparently set to ruin Tamlin and the spring court for saving her? It's not like Rhysand had a good reputation for Tamlin to believe him incapable of hurting her in the first place. It genuinely seemed like he thought he was doing right by her. But alas, it seems the spring court will now be collateral to the pursuit of her new love which honestly just seems like cheating with extra steps and a load of justification.

Author should've just honestly went for a good menage instead of ruining a good character's potential. ...more

This is by far the best book I've read in 2017 so far. This second book in the series has massive twists and turns that makes you not able to put the book down. I fell in love with the cover as soon as I saw it, the bright background colour, creative illustration and the simple white bold heading grabs your attention from a far.

I listened to this book on Audio and loved every minute of it. The last few chapters I couldn't hold it together wow that was insane!!!!!!!
