Over and over again, Alex and Jesse come together in their moments of grief, only to go their separate ways as the reality of their actions sets in. Alex has loved Jesse since she was a little girl, but isn't sure how much longer she can have Jesse push her away. He seeks her out on dates that are meaningful and related to her brother, his birthday, the anniversary of his death, etc. Every time she ends up in his bed, and every time he shuts her out afterward.

As their troubled love story plays out, her relationship with her two best friends and a plethora of high school melodramatics provide a shallow backdrop in comparison to the heavier emotions of Alex and Jesse's bond. There's her slutty friend Marissa, who makes it a point to try and sleep with any guy that shows interest in Alex. Then, there's the bossy, judgmental, Angie. She may mean well, but her overbearing nature overrides any good intentions. With friends like these two, who needs enemies?

Though I'd usually find the high school theatrics irritating, Tijan manages to keep it entertaining. I was completely sucked into this petty, vapid, teenage world. It has become a new favorite guilty pleasure of mine.

Some secrets are exposed at the end of this book, though I honestly expected something more. Her parents also prove to be total jackasses, yet again. This book ends with Alex getting ready to go to college, hopefully to pick up her relationship with Jesse. This story has me hooked, so I'll be starting the second book right away. ...more

Okayyyyyy! that did not end how I thought it would! what an emotional roller cost! I lo ed all the character building and the details in the emotions, it I did not like how to e skipped so fast I'm the end in just a few paragraphs months went by without much explanation. I felt like the author had a deadline and just ended it too fast. I had sever wipe lash! hopefully book 2 will end better and more steadily. ...more

Great book, I hated her friends, especially Marissa, what a backstabbing slut. Jesse is a douchebag at times but take heart, If you see it through you won't be disappointed with the series. If your waiting for her parents to do a 180, um NO. Cliffhanger, but no worries, the next one is out and it's awesome. Now I'm waiting on the third. ...more

Geez! Jesse can be such an a** and Alex seriously needed to grow some balls was my first thoughts on these characters. But the more you get into the story and see how much has happened to these two at such a young age and the dark secrets they are holding tight to, it's a little heartbreaking. Damn Marissa and Angie and the drama they cause and blow up out of proportion. This was a sad book that made me crave the 2nd in the series in hopes of some happiness for Alex. ...more
