The Welcome to Night Vale novel was written so it could be enjoyed by people who had never heard of the show and fans who were caught up on every episode. It mostly succeeds. There are definitely parts that will only really make sense or be funny to fans of the show. There are also continuity errors and an uncertainty on when this occurs that will bother die hard fans. Still, it works wonderfully.
