What Members Thought

The brilliance of J.D.Salinger is that he has such control of language that in these two stories he has me nodding my head along with Franny and her emotional outbursts as she mentally and emotionally breaks in response to the pressures and frustrations of the people and society around her and realizing her place in it. And in the next story I am right there agreeing with Zooey of her ridiculous response to the reading of The Pilgrim's Way and higher education and the banality of it all. I feel

So perfect.
I particularly liked how the two books within it ("Franny" and "Zooey") echoed the structure of the two Pilgrim books, one about going out in the world and talking about the Jesus Prayer, the other a dialogue concerning the Prayer. Salinger, you clever bastard. ...more

Excellent. I could see myself reading this again. It reminds me of my love of plays and drama.
