What Members Thought

The first half of this novel, detailing the events of a family affected by the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918, was compelling enough; I didn't really feel connected with the characters and the structure felt like a rip-off of Poisonwood Bible but at least the plot was intriguing. I did enjoy learning about this time in history as well as the history of embalming (the family lives in a funeral home).
