3.5✨ Very entertaining, thrilling and unique take on mermaid horror. Never really read anything like it! I enjoyed how much the science aspects were thought out. But it is pretty long-winded, and at times unbearably cheesy. Also for such a long-winded story the ending was really rushed. The author spends a looooot of time setting the stage, letting us get to know these characters really intimately, and it ends without a lot of resolution to their personal story lines. I am rounding this to 3*, mainly because the first half was boring for me (1*) and the second half was brilliant (4*).
I haven't read any books like this before really - sci-fi/horror/lesbian romance/mermaids/STEM etc mix. I feel it's a feminist book... (no spoilers).
Interesting read once I got past the 49% mark! ...more
