Jasmine "Jazz" Bashara was born and raised in Artemis, the first, and currently only, city on the Moon. She works as a porter and subsidizes her minimal income as a part-time smuggler. Although she is skilled in arranging transportation of contraband goods from Earth, she is an ethical smuggler, no drugs or weapons. Her side business provides her access to some of the wealthiest and most powerful citizens of Artemis. When businessman Trond Landvik offers her one million slugs (lunar currency) to

Thanks to the publisher for an advance reader's copy.
Artemis isn't nearly as compelling as The Martian, but what could be? It lacks the cinematic plot and high stakes that made The Martian so riveting, but it's still an enjoyable caper with plenty Andy Weir's signature tone. His greatest talent is packing a book full of hard science while still maintaining clarity for those of us who couldn't care less. I'm left in awe every time!

First off I want to thank you NetGalley and Crown Publishing for the ARC of Artemis by Andy Weir.
I was both excited and apprehensive about this book, I was so surprised by how much I loved The Martian that I kind thought the second book might not be as enjoyable. Thankfully I was wrong. This was a very different book in many ways but one thing that stayed the same was Weir’s ability to take science and technical terms and make them approachable and interesting. Sure there were times in both book ...more
While I did check the book, The Martian, out, I never got around to reading it. And I loved the movie. So when Andy Weir's latest book, Artemis, came out, I checked it out from the library. And this time I actually read the book!
Set in the lunar colony, Artemis, it's the story of a small-time smuggler, Jasmine Bashara, or Jazz as she is known. Being a small 'town' everyone knows everyone else and she's just a good girl who happens to smuggle on the side. Until...

I didn't expect Andy Weir's sophomore effort to even approach the phenomenal bomb-blast that was The Martian (still the only book that I have ever started over and re-read immediately after finishing it the first time) so maybe that was why I wasn't disappointed by it but found it to be an enjoyable read. To be completely honest, Jazz got on my nerves sometimes (too much teen/Millenial attitude for my taste occasionally) but I still found the story interesting. The plot definitely grabs you and
