This is a must read memoir. I love Roxane Gay’s writing, and I do wonder as she does at times in this book, how our experiences shape us into the people we become. Woah... what a memoir. Hard to get through but very courageous. I connected to her story at some points and found it very powerful. This is a story I am unlikely to forget.

Wow. This was an incredible experience that really pushed my perspectives on bodies and weight. This is a raw, honest, vulnerable memoir about how Gay has used food and self-destructive behaviors to satiate many different kinds of hunger. It's also about the ways that the food and self-destructive behaviors have fallen short of healing her trauma. The audiobook is read by the author herself, and I felt that made it all the more powerful. I don't think this is a book you can really *enjoy* reading, but I certainly appreciated it. ...more

I was disappointed by the writing in this book. I thought it was dull and repetitive. The writing was just so boring and I didn't understand why she structured it the way she did. It just felt unfinished in a craft way, and I couldn't get past that. I know that she was brave and that this is a really important topic, but I was so disappointed with the writing and I couldn't get past that. ...more
