This was my first King - and I can see why he is such a popular writer. The story is complex, well written, with great foreshadowing and surprises. King takes us through several different stories with different feels. I loved the depiction of life in 1958-63, the simpler life, naivete and trust, but also the segregation, the acceptance of abusive husbands, the smoking... Oh My Goodness. I didn't think I was a Stephen King fan - but WOW!!!! I will have to read more of his non horror books. This was fantastic. I've read numerous time travel books and this was by far the best. I have always been fascinated with the Kennedy assassination (year I was born), and this was so intriguing - what could/would happen in the past were changed? "The past is obdurate.
