As Poirot notes in the book, this mystery is insanely messy, with threads leading all over the place and multiple false endings, but I ultimately found the solution really satisfying. It'd hoped to use this as my book about sports for the Book Riot Read Harder challenge, but it is only vaguely tied to golf, so no luck there: I have to hunker down and read a sports book now.

Another wonderful heroine of Agatha :-D Cinderella aka Dulcie Duveen :-)
I have seen most of these as tv series episodes, so I think I have read this, but they aren't the book, now, are they? Some surprises in there :-D

This has never been one of my favourite Poirots, not because of Poirot himself, who is as amusing as ever, but because Hastings is even more gormless than usual & there were no other particularly likeable characters. I really didn't care who was had up for murder in the end.
There is, however, a sweetness in meeting Hastings' auburn-haired girl for the first time: the woman who took him to South America, & whom he returned without many years later. I do miss him when he is gone.

Poirot receives a letter from a gentleman in France asking for his assistance because he believes his life to be in danger. When Poirot arrives, it is too late because the man had been murdered. Poirot now must discover who killed him. This was a fun mystery and I like how Christie uses Hastings as a proxy for the reader as Poirot tries to guide him to solve the mystery without telling him the answers. I felt like I got to know both Poirot and Hastings more in this book than in the first one in

The personalities of the 2 leads were displayed on this one and I wouldn't mind having Papa Poirot help me too lol. Despite the strong and aggressive male characters, the women held their own.

What a letdown after the charming Tommy and Tuppence mystery. Also more tiresome than The Secret Adversary. This one didn't grab me at all. In fact, I couldn't even tell you whoudunit.

It’s hard to find anything wrong with an Agatha Christie story. I listened to the BBC production, and I have to say that it was one of the weaker ones… It’s narrated by Poirot’s roommate, and I’m not sure if that’s a device of the audio production of a device of the novel itself. It was also very short. So it wasn’t my favorite Agatha Christie, but really not too bad.

Hastings was a right idiot in this one, but I liked the twists and the ending.

Yeah, that is basically a fitting review. I do like Cinderella, and her standing up against Hasting’s sexism and actually using it against him.
