Since this is a Newbery Honor, I expected to enjoy this more. I've liked other books written in verse (The Crossover was really good, and I loved Inside Out and Back Again), but I didn't feel like the story itself was particularly compelling, and telling it in verse didn't help.

The best books are the ones that have you still thinking about them months later. Brown Girl Dreaming is just such a book. I've had the fortune to read several excellent books written in verse this year but this one is my favorite so far. Brown Girl Dreaming was my first Jacqueline Woodson book; it won't be my last.

My second ever audio book. I am glad that I read this book in this format - it gave it depth to hear it in the authors own voice.

Very interesting "verse novel", the author makes beautiful use of the English language as an instrument.

I don't think I could ever limit myself to one favorite passage from this book. It is beautifully written and a must read. And a must re-read.
